Wondering why, after Hampton’s MaKayla Timmons nailed the buzzer-beating 3-pointer to stun Alabama Wednesday, the only Lady Pirate who wasn’t going nuts was Timmons herself? Maybe that’s just how she rolls. Or maybe it’s because, when it comes to stealing victory in a hostile gym with a last-second bomb, this wasn’t Timmons’ first rodeo.
On Jan. 16, 2016, the then-Old Dominion freshman rocked Middle Tennessee State with a cold-blooded 40-footer as time expired to seize a 61-58 victory. The shot was so sweet it cracked ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays list (No. 7, if you’re scoring at home).
A little less than four years and one transfer later, Timmons was at it again. And while you can’t really tell from her stone-faced expression, we suspect she’s actually pleased with how things turned out.
Thank you LadySwish. But you are correct, after that shot at Alabama, MaKayla just kind of walked off the court as the rest of us went crazy. Thank you so much for encouraging and recognizing her dream. I am a grateful Mother.
